Well, you are partially correct, because exams and tests are the methods to test students, but they only test their theoretical knowledge. Teachers must observe the behaviour, understanding and learning patterns of the learners, and then modify their teaching methods according to that. For example, while teaching and training B.Ed students, the professors can’t treat them as middle-school students. That’s why they have to use methods like case studies and practical learning.
Set Expectations: Students can only achieve the learning outcomes of their course and program when they are aware of what they are expected to do. Teachers must communicate and inform students about the expectations set for them throughout the teaching of the course. And when students know that they have certain skills to learn, deadlines to meet and attitudes to display; they will pay attention in class to learn all the necessary skills, knowledge and behaviour.
Switching-Up The Roles: Imagine this situation, students are sitting silently in the classroom and the teacher is standing in front of the class; and he or she has been speaking and explaining the chapters and concepts continuously for the past 30 minutes, but the students are just listening and not responding in any way. Looks familiar, right, it is the typical situation of every classroom but it needs to change. Teachers take a break, and let students do some self-learning; instead of just listening let students speak. Ask questions from students, do probing questions, and let them explain various topics instead of just teaching them; this will open up their minds and personality and make them active learners.
Keep The Spirits High: Students can only learn when they want to learn, and it can only happen when they feel motivated enough to ask questions and be curious to learn new things. Teachers can make sure this happens by appreciating students and their efforts; recognizing efforts of students, praising them by giving certificates for notable work or medals for participation in competitions, and activities and performing extra-ordinarily in academics.
Use The Technology: Today technology and education go hand-in-hand, so teachers make the best use of technology to engage, interact and improve students. Use tools like the app to teach online, whiteboards, simulation games and Google form to teach and test students.
